Intermediate Fisheries Biologist

Location: .Vancouver

 

Our client has an immediate, full-time employment opportunity for an Intermediate Fisheries Biologist in their Vancouver, B.C. office. The successful candidates will join their team of aquatic and terrestrial biologists working on a broad range of resource development projects in western and northern Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principle responsibility of the position entails designing and conducting field studies and analyzing and communicating results of baseline studies and monitoring programs focused on fisheries and aquatic resources. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with proposal writing, preparation of impact assessments and environmental management plans, project management, and client and regulatory liaison. The successful candidates will be able to work independently, as a field crew leader, and as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:

*A bachelor’s or Master’s degree in fisheries or aquatic biology or natural resource management

*3 or more years of professional environmental consulting experience;·

*Professional designation (or eligibility) as a Registered Professional Biologist in British Columbia

*Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation

*Proven experience with fish and habitat inventory standard methods in lakes and streams

*Excellent technical writing abilities and strong verbal communication skills

*Ability to work in urban and remote locations

ASSETS:

*experience in permitting and compliance monitoring

* experience in habitat restoration/enhancement/assessment

*experience in stream crossing assessments

· experience with limnology, water quality, and hydrology sampling methods

· proposal writing and project management experience

· Excellent time management and organization skills

· Electrofishing Certification

· Swiftwater Rescue Certification

· Pleasure Craft Operator Certification

Experience with fisheries mitigation measures including sediment and erosion control, spill response, fish passage, habitat compensation, fish salvage, reclamation
